Gravure is a process in which an etched and inked copper or polymer plate is run through an intaglio press to force ink into paper using massive pressure. Unlike other process, gravure provides the artist with an almost limitless number of creative variables in the printing process.
I learned quite a bit about gravure in 2013 and made some plates and prints I am very pleased with. It's a process I will return to when I have the time and projects it's well suited for. An excellent overview of the process and history of gravure is provided by The Getty Atlas of Analytical Signatures.
